SOFTWARE ENGINEER
Alexandria, VA       

Space Ground System Solutions, a Parsons company, has an immediate full-time opening for a software engineer.  Our focus is to provide our customers with practical state of the art solutions to complex communications, command, control and intelligence systems. We currently provide engineering services to the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) in support of: spacecraft design, development, integration, and test; satellite pre-launch, launch and mission operations; network design, development, and administration; and terrestrial observation applications for naval field units. The Software Engineer position will be responsible for development of software for satellite command, control and telemetry monitoring.


Job Responsibilities

  • Front-end and back-end development for web applications in a Linux RHEL environment
  • Redesigning C++ desktop user interfaces for the web
  • Participating in UI design for web applications
  • React/JavaScript and Java software development
  • Perform System and Software level Integration and Test
  • Design and implement software for a large-scale command and control system
  • Create and execute integration and system tests and document test procedures
  • Troubleshoot software system issues
  • Work in a dynamic, fast paced, & sometimes pressured environment

 

Required Skills/Qualifications

  • Good understanding of web application architecture
  • Experience developing web applications
  • Experience with HTML, JavaScript and JavaScript libraries

 

Preferred Skills/Qualifications

  • Experience with React
  • Proficiency developing and testing software in a Linux environment
  • Experience documenting test results for corrective actions
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Desire to work in the space industry developing satellite command and control systems for test and operations 
  • Experience using software configuration management tools (examples: ClearCase, GIT, Mercurial, etc.)
  • Experience interacting with databases (examples: Oracle, Sybase, MySQL, etc.)
  • Experience writing scripts (examples: shell scripting, PERL, etc.)

 

Required Education

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science/Engineering or other relevant Engineering field from an accredited university or equivalent combination of formal education and experience


Required Experience

Zero (0) to five (5) years of software engineering/development experience


Security Clearance Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must meet eligibility requirements associated with obtaining a DoD Secret clearance
  • Selected applicant will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements associated with access to classified information
