Software Engineer
Alexandria, VA


Space Ground System Solutions, a Parsons company, has an immediate full-time opening for a software engineer in Alexandria, VA. The position will be responsible for software integration and development of the Virtual Mission Operations Center (VMOC) software. VMOC is a program under contract with the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) in Washington, DC, that focuses on mission critical research for national security.  This position requires a motivated individual who seeks to work in a team environment where creative solutions are encouraged, and technical challenges are the norm.

Position Responsibilities:

• Perform analysis of requirements and software documentation
• Complete research on new technologies or methodologies for the purpose of implementing complex workflows
• Develop and document improvements to the VMOC software system
• Communicate effectively with customers, management, and other developers to aid and provide guidance in designing new features as well as determining defect fixes
• Ability to work in an Agile environment

Required Skills/Qualifications:

• US Citizenship Required with eligibility to obtain Secret Security clearance
• Bachelor of Science in Computer Science/Engineering or Software Engineering from an accredited university or equivalent combination of formal education and experience
• Practical experience with object-oriented development
• Practical experience with software configuration management tools (e.g. git)
• Practical experience with relational databases (e.g. MySQL, PostGreSQL, Oracle DB)
• Practical experience with development of software application program interfaces (APIs)

Preferred three (3) years’ experience with:

• Java/Java EE application development
• Sprint/Spring Boot application development
• Application server development on JBoss Wildfly server
• GUI development
• Atlassian Software Development and Collaboration Tools (JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket etc).
• Unix based operating systems
• Cloud software development and concepts
• Web security technologies and best practices (e.g. PKI, OpenId)
• Satellite Systems, Satellite Operations, and/or Aerospace Engineering concepts
