Overview

The Platform Engineer IMAC position will directly support the US Air Force Space and Missile Center (SMC) Enterprise Ground Service (EGS) SATOPS, Prototyping, and Integration (SPI) program and its goal to deploy a universal command and control architecture aimed at eliminating restrictions by continuously delivering enterprise tactical command and control services and applications that, when integrated with mission partner unique services and applications through the use of system engineering principles, will fully enable today’s modern warfighter.

 

This role will align under the EGS Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) Platform Services team as described herein. 

 

This position will implement Identity Management and Access Control as code (PaaS) with a focus on Windows and CI/CD plus ansible driven Powershell. The platform engineer will be responsible for building, securing, and operating multi-tenant runtime environments to be deployed across multiple infrastructure configurations: including AWS GovCloud, vSphere, and OpenStack, including on-premises configurations. The platform engineer team will work closely with cyber security engineering, network engineering, the integration and deployment teams, as well as the engineering teams running tenant applications, to maintain a secure and available environment for all customer missions. This position requires a strong background in automated deployment both in cloud and local deployments. Demonstrated experience with deployment and management using DevSecOps orchestration. This person will be highly motivated, focused, and proficient in implementing SPI’s infrastructure and runtime environments.

The successful senior level engineer in this position will have a breadth of experience in automated infrastructure configuration (IaC), provisioning of cloud OS level infrastructure, and building/maintaining runtime environments. Applicants should be familiar with common DevSecOps orchestration technologies, multiple OSes, and deployment and orchestration methodologies to include supporting full CI/CD toolchains. will have delivered and maintained runtime environments for use by developers and deployed applications in private datacenter and public/commercial cloud computing infrastructures. The platform engineer will work on a scrum team with a US Government product owner.

Position Responsibilities

  • Delivering and contributing to the design of authentication stacks via automation code (PaaS)
  • Using enterprise automation tools (such as Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, etc.) to deploy and maintain complex environments as IaC (Infrastructure as code) and PaC (Platform as code)
  • Employing the latest technologies to support CI/CD in virtualized and/or cloud environments
  • Deploying and supporting various environments within AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • OpenStack, or other common on-prem infrastructure orchestration technologies, deployment, administration, and operations

 

Minimum Security Clearance

  • The ability to obtain a Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance; an active DoD SCI Clearance is desired

 

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience with designing and implementing Active Directory domains
  • Experience delivering both functional and security required configurations as Powershell and Groups Policy Objects (GPOs), preferably as dynamic CI/CD driven code
  • Experience working with common cloud infrastructure providers, private cloud infrastructure, or enterprise virtualization platforms. Examples include AWS, Azure, VMWare Cloud Foundation, Openstack etc.
  • Automation experience using technologies such as Bash/Python, Terraform, Ansible, Packer, Puppet
  • Agile mindset and likes to tackle complex problems and take initiative and responsibility
  • Strong written and oral communications skills

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with integration of Active Directory in heterogenous environments with technologies such as LDAP, IdM, etc.
  • Experience with common Kubernetes orchestration technologies -- OpenShift, Rancher, GKS, AWS EKS, etc.
  • Knowledge of monitoring tools such as Splunk and Elk Stack
  • Experience with industry standard patch maintenance systems such as Satellite and WSUS
  • Active DoD TS/SSBI or SCI Clearance

 

Education and Training Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline.

 

Minimum Years of Experience:

  • 7-10 years of computer systems design, integration and maintenance, with at least 2 years of experience with DevOps orchestration
